Root-level irrigation and heating system

1- Anti-root exterior permeable layer

The permeable MICROFAB layer creates a physical barrier against wild plants and exterior debris. This layer prevents the proliferation of algae inside the mattress because of its resistance to ultraviolet rays (UV) while allowing air and water to freely circulate in its interior. The external cover stays dry while it efficiently promotes root-development of the plants.

2- Micro-perforated pipes

Micro-perforated pipes are placed 61cm (2 inches) from each other so as to optimize humidity levels within the fabric reservoir layer.  The amount of watering needed will be calculated and adjusted according to the properties of the substrate used, the type of plants being grown and the climatic conditions.

3- Patented anti-evaporation layer

Composed of 100% high-quality polyester fibers, the composition of this layer prevents surface evaporation and contributes to the effective distribution of water in the pots through capillarity.  It lets water or rainfall to circulate freely, but only releases it under the pressure when pots are placed on the mat.

4- Fabric reservoir

This absorbent fabric is coupled to the anti-evaporation layer. Its impressive retention capacity (2.5 gallons / square yards® 11.6 liters / square meters) as well as its capillarity capability (12.5 cm ® 5 inches) creates an interactive network. The water used by the roots of the plants are constantly replaced by that stored inside the mat. This sustained water supply drastically reduces the amount of watering that is needed..

5- Waterproof polyethylene layer

Beneath the upper layers, a 6mm-thick, impermeable polyethylene film contains a series of contiguous pools placed every 3.05m (10 feet).A 2.5cm. A 1 inch  hem  near the edge of the mattress prevents water and fertilizers runoff.

6 - Heating tubes (EPDM)

The rubber heating tubes (EPDM) through which the warm water flows are placed at regular intervals so as to distribute warmth uniformly.
